He comes from a long line of medical and holistic practitioners. His great-grandmother and grandmother were practicing Afro-Cuban herbal healers. His
mother a dental surgeon, and his aunt a doctor in pharmacy and practitioner of
Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic remedies.
A Graduate of Candler College in Havana Cuba, he
also attended the University of New Mexico at Taos, NM and the
College of Human Services in NY. His life's accomplishments led to an endorsement as Masters in Addiction Counseling from the National Association of Forensic
Counselors, and he was an honored task-force member of the American Association of Marriage
and Family Therapists and principal author of the WV Chapter by-laws. He is also a Certified Criminal Justice Specialist, a member
of the American Association of Christian Counselors and pending member of the American
Holistic Nurses' Association, the American Herbalist Guild, the Canadian Natural Center
for Homeopathy, and the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association.
An Honorary Alumnus of Alderson-Broaddus College,
he has
served as lecturer and consultant to the University of Charleston, project
developer to the
Appalachian Educational Lab, as well as occupying the position of private research
assistant, advisor and nurse to the late Dr. Paul Bigelow Sears, Ph.D., former chair
School of Botany, Notre Dame University.
His vast clinical experience extends as well to the field of
mental health. As Director and Founder of V.I.D.A. (Viable Innovative
Drug Alternatives), therapist at New Hope of central Florida, senior staff clinician at the Narcotic Abuse
Treatment Program in California and Administrator for Family Services in West Virginia, he
is endowed with a perception into human nature seldom seen in practitioners this day and
age.
As founder and owner of Synchronicity,
a Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine consulting firm, and Herbs Unlimited,
a retail herbal enterprise, Mr. Guerra in addition to his private practice,
is offering his extensive
knowledge and experience as lecturer and consultant to academic and health care
institutions, medical practitioners, and civic groups.
